Obama's New Foreign Policy Team
Tuesday December 2, 2008
Reaction is almost uniformly positive to President-elect Barack Obama's new foreign policy and national security team. Although the mainstream media insists the liberal blogosphere is upset about the choice of Senator Hillary Clinton as secretary of state, I see little evidence of that.
The main theme of most blog comments is that whoever is in the Obama Administration, they have a LOT of work to do. Here are some great resources:
- Charlie Brown at Undiplomatic says the whole foreign policy repair job will be like turning a supertanker.
- Brown especially welcomes the choice of Susan Rice as ambassador to the United Nations.
- About Guide to Women's Issues Linda Lowen has a profile of Dr. Rice.
- UN Dispatch says UN Foundation President Tim Wirth is "Wild About Rice." And so is Citizens for Global Solutions.
- UN Dispatch also notes the significance of Obama's announcement that the position of UN Ambassador will be restored to full cabinet-level rank.
- At Democracy Arsenal Ilan Goldberg says General Jim Jones is a compelling choice as National Security Advisor
- Foreign Policy Passport offers: What does Jim Jones think about the world?
- And finally, Moira Whelan at Democracy Arsenal raves about the nominee for secretary of homeland security, Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano.
