While the nation is on storm watch as Hurrican Sandy approaches the Northeast, here is a story about a hurricane that hit Washington D.C. in August 1814.
Sandy may well impact the presidential election next week, but the storm in 1814 helped end the War of 1812, and it set the U.S. on a path to the great diplomatic Era of Good Feelings.
