U.S. Senator Christopher Dodd (D-CT)

Who Is He?: Christopher Dodd was born May 27, 1944 in Willimantic, Connecticut. He is a graduate of Providence College and the University of Louisville law school. He served in the U.S. Peace Corps and the U.S. Army Reserves. He practiced law before being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1974. He has served in the U.S. Senate since election in 1980.

International Experience: Senator Dodd is a long serving member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee with a special interest in Latin America. He lived in the Dominican Republic during his time in the Peace Corps, and now leads the Senate subcommittee which oversees that agency. In 1999, Dodd received the Edmund S. Muskie Distinguished Public Service Award for his foreign policy leadership.

Foreign Policy Positions: Dodd voted for the Iraq war authorization in 2002, but he now says that was a mistake. He has spoken strongly on the need for action in Darfur and received an "A" rating from DarfurScores.org. Dodd is a strong supporter of the United Nations and U.N. reform efforts. He received an "A+" rating from Citizens for Global Solutions.
