The first is this poster at the Yll Morina school in downtown Gjakova. I have no idea how old the artist is, but the meaning of their creation could not be more clear. The image shows a red, white, and blue eagle carrying something in the shape of Kosovo. Across the shape of Kosovo is the Albanian word for independence. The United States is delivering an independent Kosovo to the world.
This is my third visit to Kosovo, and the respect and outpouring of affection the Kosovars have toward Americans has not diminished at all since I first came in 2002. They understand quite well that the United States led the charge to get NATO involved in ending the violence here in the 1990's.
